Golf fans from around the world have been rushing to be part of the Dubai World Championship, with hundreds of volunteers offering their services for key roles at the highly anticipated climax to The Race to Dubai.
Buddy Morin, a Dubai-based Canadian with close to four decades of experience across major golf events, was appointed as Dubai World Championship Chief Marshall in April of this year and immediately appealed for volunteers to fill a number of key roles at the tournament.
In a matter of weeks, Morin has assembled a small army of 400 volunteers who will be tasked with a range of marshalling roles, including crowd control management and assisting with player movement around the Greg Norman-designed Earth course.
“I have worked as a marshal at some of the best tournaments in the world, but being selected for this position is very exciting and really does give me a great deal of pride,” he said. “The whole golf world is talking about The Race to Dubai and I am delighted that I will be playing such a key role when the world’s best players descend on Dubai in November for the Dubai World Championship.”
In addition to the marshalling force, a 130-strong scoring team from Dubai College has also been confirmed. The students have extensive experience in scoring management support after filling similar roles at the Dubai Desert Classic.
In the days following the tournament, volunteers will get the chance to follow in the footsteps of the players who have just competed in the Dubai World Championship during a ‘thank you’ golf tournament held on the Earth course.
