Jeev Milkha Singh is determined to give the Dubai World Championship his best shot despite grappling with another injury.
The Indian ace, currently 35th in The Race to Dubai, pulled out of the Frys.com Open on the PGA Tour last month after hurting his right ankle; an injury which hampered him throughout 2008 season.
Singh also had to pull out of The Open Championship at Turnberry in July with a pulled inter-costal muscle that effectively took three months out of his schedule during the busy mid-season of The Race to Dubai.
Despite his latest injury, Singh is keen on becoming part of history when the inaugural Dubai World Championship is played at Jumeirah Golf Estates; a venue which has sponsored the 38-year-old for the past two seasons.
“The only way I’m going to miss the tournament is if I cannot walk!” he said. “Otherwise I’m going to be there.”
“Jumeirah Golf Estates have been fantastic sponsors for me personally and they have been great supporters of The European Tour”
“These guys have been fantastic and you just need to see their events in South Africa and The European Open to realise why golf needs companies like them.”
Leisurecorp, now part of Nakheel Leisure, offered free admission at the South African Open in December 2008 and attracted record crowds to its Pearl Valley Golf Estates. A ground-breaking scheme at The European Open also proved an enormous success with close to 90,000 spectators coming through the gates of The London Golf Club.
“Both the tournaments were spectacular successes because of the way they managed the crowd.”
The free ticket scheme is also on offer for the Dubai World Championship, which has so far attracted 70,000 registrations, and Singh would love to repay the faith shown in him by his sponsors with a strong showing at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
“I would like to thank them with a good performance at the Earth,” he said.
