His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum visited the Earth course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates for a final inspection before the Dubai World Championships, sponsored by DP World, which takes place starting November 19 to the 22.
H.H. Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum raised the unique Dubai World Championship trophy at the 18th green (pictured) on the “Earth” Greg Norman-designed Championship course, which will be played competitively for the very first time at the season finale to The Race to Dubai by the world’s leading players, including England’s Lee Westwood, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, Spain’s Sergio Garcia, Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, and Germany’s Martin Kaymer.
Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed, said: “The Dubai World Championship reflects the UAE’s continuous support of all recreational sports and golf in particular. We are certain that the tournament will further enhance Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading cities in hosting world-class sporting events.”
With just over a week until the Dubai World Championship begins, grandstands have been erected and
finishing touches are being added to the Championship Village which will offer a range of entertainment for the whole family away from the action on the course, including live bands, free golf lessons and a Kid’s Zone.
The Earth course, as well as the neighbouring Fire course, is set to open to a limited number of members on December 1.
